Swiping is a hazard, according to Jason Derulo! The singer tells Us Weekly exclusively why he's choosing to unveil his "Want to Want Me" music video on Tinder, even though the recently single-again star doesn't use the dating app himself.
"Social media and dating together is the new wave," Derulo, 25, tells Us. "It is the source of one half of the relationships in 2015, and I'm all about being part of the new wave. A lot of my friends and family members are on Tinder... [It's] the perfect place for my new single, ‘Want to Want Me.' On Tinder, you swipe left or right and want the person you like to want you, too. It is a cool and unique way to deliver my new video to the world."
While he finds the platform fascinating, Derulo says he is personally not on it himself, nor does he have plans to join anytime soon. "I would if it wasn’t so unpredictable," he tells Us. "I’d probably meet some huge fans, but otherwise it’s not a safe bet. Maybe if they come up with a version of Tinder for celebrities, then I would do it. I do think it is a beautiful thing and works."
After all, Derulo is single and ready to mingle after splitting from his girlfriend of three years Jordin Sparks last September. The Miami native says he's been meeting girls organically since his split — with the help of some family members.
"I have my wingmen, my little cousins," he tells Us. "They help me sift through the weirdos and find someone cool out of all the people I meet at clubs or events. It doesn’t matter to me where I meet them — it they are a nice-looking person and we mesh well, why not?"
Derulo's "Want to Want Me" music video will drop Monday, Mar. 23.
