Not giving up. Teen Mom 2’s Jenelle Evans is “ready” and “prepared” to regain custody of her 7-year-old son, Jace, she tells Us Weekly exclusively. The MTV personality’s mother, Barbara Evans, currently serves as the boy’s legal guardian.
“We haven’t even had, like, one real court date trial for Jace’s case,” the 24-year-old reality star — who is pregnant and expecting a baby girl with boyfriend David Eason — tells Us. “It’s been going for a year and a half and my lawyer has been going to court for me and my mom’s lawyer has been continuing it. She continued it three different times … hopefully we get this all resolved in October when the court date comes.”
The 16 & Pregnant alum, who handed over custodial rights of Jace in 2009 because of her unstable lifestyle, now feels more than capable of caring for her little guy.
“Why hasn’t it happened yet? Because I’m just waiting to go to court!,” the reformed addict, who currently looks after Jace “every weekend,” tells Us. “That’s all! I’m ready, I’m prepared. I’m just waiting to go.”
As documented on TM2, the two have been fighting over custody of Jace for years. Though Jenelle — who is also the mom of Kaiser, 2, who she shares with ex-fiancé Nathan Griffith — is looking forward to living with her firstborn full-time, she is unsure whether her mom is ready to let go.
“I think she’s just too attached right now. I mean, I don’t understand what the issue is with him being back with me and I don’t see what the big deal is. But I think she’s just making up excuses because she’s attached,” she explains to Us of her mother’s emotional state. “Like right now, if I bring it up to her she’s like, ‘Well let’s see what the judge says, well let’s see what the judge says.’ So she won’t even discuss it with me.”
Jenelle — who often butts heads with Barbara — adds: “I’m trying to be nice because that’s my mom, but at the same time it’s like I want to cuss her out every time I see her because she doesn’t even want to talk to me about it. And at the same time I’m like, ‘Why are you doing this? You’re my mom!’”
On the long-running docuseries, Babs has argued that she just wants to do what’s best for Jace.
Despite her custody battle, Jenelle is excited to expand her family and is even more thrilled to be finally welcoming a daughter with her beau, Eason, who is already the dad of Maryssa from a previous relationship.
“I’ve got my girl now, and I’m very ecstatic, very happy to be actually decorating stuff and all girls stuff, and all my friends are like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re going to be so spoiled!’” she raves to Us. “Because all my friends, they just have little boys, so it’s like everyone is just so super excited for me!”
