Trolling Trebek! A contestant on Jeopardy! managed to prank the game show's beloved host, Alex Trebek, by making him utter the words "Turd Ferguson" on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
The contestant, Talia Lavin, was asked a question under the category of Oscar-nominated songs. "This song from a 1999 animated film about censorship had a word censored from its Oscar performance," Trebek read aloud.
Lavin then scribbled the response: "What is the love ballad of Turd Ferguson. PS Hi Mom :)."
The crowd immediately roared in response and viewers reveled in the reference. The name, Turd Ferguson, was made popular back in the '90s by Norm Macdonald and Will Ferrell on their SNL sketch Celebrity Jeopardy! The joke is beloved from the throwback sketches in which Macdonald called himself Turd Ferguson (because it was a "funny name.")
Trebek, of course, dealt with the incident professionally by calmly noting to Lavin that her response was incorrect.
Meanwhile, Lavin — a former staffer at HuffPost — told the site about her Internet-friendly response. "I love Norm Macdonald, and think giant styrofoam hats are funny," she said. "I'm honored to be trending on [Facebook] with my homeslices Iggy Azalea and Jeb Bush."
While she didn't walk away with the cash prize, Lavin was still a winner. "I won the Internet," she shared. "Which is way better than many thousands of dollars."
