Jesse James and Kat Von D are not following in the footsteps of Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris.

The couple went on the defensive Thursday night after a tabloid claimed that they'd broken off their engagement.

TLC star and tattoo artist Von D (real name: Katherine von Drachenberg) laughed when a fan commented via Twitter about the "silly" canceled wedding story. "Ha!" the 28-year-old wrote. "Silly is correct!"

Motorcycle mogul James, 41, was a bit angrier -- slamming "piece of s*** tabloids" on his microblogging account. "Lick my b****," he sniped.

Pals for years, James and Von D stepped out as a couple last August, just a few months after the Monster Garage star's highly-publicized divorce from Sandra Bullock was finalized. (James cheated on wife of 6 years Bullock, 46, with tattooed model Michelle "Bombshell" McGee.)

They confirmed their engagement this January. "There's no one else for me," Von D told reporters of James back in January, when she debuted her engagement ring. "He's the one."

It will be the fourth marriage for James, and the second for von D, who split from first husband Oliver Peck in 2007.

James was totally frank when asked to compare his future and most recent ex-wife during a May chat on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show.

"Who's more fun in bed? Sandra Bullock or Kat Von D?" Stern asked.

"That one's an easy no-brainer," James replied.

"Kat von D?" Stern clarified.

"Yes, sir.  100 percent.  She's a vixen...The way she gets in my head and makes me feel."
