Jessie J's trademark bob is gone, gone, gone! The British pop star, 24, made good on a recent promise to go practically bald, shaving off her sleek brunette locks on live TV for the 25th annual Comic Relief fundraiser, which aired on BBC1 in the UK. The "Domino" singer did the deed when the special, part of "Red Nose Day" in England, aired on Friday (March 15)
"I did it! Thank you to everyone who is donating!" the chanteuse (full name: Jessica Ellen Cornish) tweeted. And her efforts were worth it: With One Direction, Simon Cowell and other British stars taking part, the Comic Relief special raised 75 million British pounds -- or $113 million in U.S. currency -- towards various causes in the UK and Africa.
Indeed, in a pre-taped segment, the Grammy nominee visited with a few of the charities and individuals helped by Comic Relief, including on young victim of sex trafficking. "I can;t even begin to comprehend how a child should feel like that," she said, bursting into tears.
"[It] is something I've promised to do for a long time and Comic Relief has given me the opportunity to try and raise as much money as possible for good causes by doing it," Jessie J said in an earlier statement. "I''ve loved watching Red Nose Day since I was a kid and I'm so excited to join this year's team of celebrity fundraisers. So I'll be shaving my head live on the night! I won't deny that I'm nervous but I am also honored to be part of this year's campaign."
