What a jokester! Jimmy Fallon wore a surgical mask as he greeted Hillary Clinton on The Tonight Show following her recent bout with pneumonia.
“Welcome, welcome. Thank you so much,” the late night TV host, 41, said to the Democratic presidential nominee, 68, as he jokingly pulled out the mask from his desk drawer on the episode that’s set to air on Monday, September 19. “It is great to have you here!”
Laughing, Clinton gave Fallon a high five, prompting him to take the joke even further by lathering his hands with hand sanitizer, according to NBC News.
Later in the interview, the comedian asked the former secretary of State about some of the challenges she faces while campaigning against Republican nominee Donald Trump to become the next president of the United States.
“It’s especially tricky for women. It just is,” Clinton explained. “You don’t talk about ISIS with a big grin on your face.… It is a constant balancing act. How do you kind of keep the energy and the positive spirit while taking seriously what you need to do?”
Fallon interviewed Trump, 70, on the NBC late-night talk show on Thursday, September 15, and the real estate mogul allowed the Saturday Night Live alum to mess with his hair.
After the interview aired, some social media users called out Fallon for being too playful with the GOP candidate rather than asking hard-hitting questions about the election.
“Jimmy Fallon has people play games on The Tonight Show. He should have Trump play Risk and see how quickly he destroys the whole world,” one Twitter user quipped.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs on NBC weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET.
