Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Donald Trump for Canceling On Him

Zing! Jimmy Kimmel made fun of Donald Trump after the Republican presidential candidate canceled his scheduled appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! just hours before the show on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

“Donald Trump was supposed to be here tonight,” Kimmel, 47, told the audience, who immediately started booing loudly. “And now he’s glad he didn’t come, I guess. His people called late last night and canceled. But they did want me to relay the message that if he had been here, he would have been great.”

The comedian went on to tell viewers that the ex Celebrity Apprentice host’s people said the cancellation was due to a political event.

“I’m dying to find out what this major political commitment was,” Kimmel joked of the real estate mogul, 69. “Usually it means he had to go on CNN and call someone an idiot. Why did he cancel? We told him there were cameras here! Are Tuesday nights the nights he volunteers down at the orphanage?”

Kimmel concluded by saying that in lieu of Trump’s appearance, he would be giving the audience “basketballs dipped in cologne, so you can fully experience what it would have been like, had Donald Trump been here.”

A spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, meanwhile, told Variety via email, “Unfortunately, Mr. Trump now has a political obligation that will prevent him from joining as planned, but we have rescheduled to join in-studio in LA over the next few weeks.”
