Fighting for what she believes in. Joanna Krupa is the latest celebrity to join the fight against animal cruelty with PETA, Us Weekly can exclusively confirm. The Real Housewives of Miami star is featured in a new ad for the organization, which highlights how sheep are violently sheared and abused. (Warning: The image is graphic.)
In the campaign photo, Krupa, 36, appears naked, bruised and bloody and holds a fake dead sheep in her arms. Below the lifeless, battered animal is a sign that reads: "Wool: The Naked Truth."
The nonprofit has previously released five exposés about how some sheep are treated. The footage was recorded at 37 wool industry facilities and on three continents.
Krupa opened up about joining forces with PETA while shooting the new ad. "When human beings are abused and beaten, we can ask for help, can call the police, can ask a family member, can ask a friend, 'Please help me.' Sheep beaten and abused for wool need someone on their side, too," the reality star says in PETA's press release. "My PETA ad may be shocking to look at, but I hope it will open people's eyes and encourage them to choose kind, wool-free fashion."
"I had no idea that people were so cruel," she adds. "They beat these sheep in these wool farms. Some of them get slammed, break their necks. Millions of them each year. They end up dying. They're shearing the animals so quickly that they cut them open sometimes, and they sew them without any painkillers."
Other celebrities who've teamed with PETA in the past include Eva Mendes, Charlize Theron and Penélope Cruz.
