A rep for John McClain and John Branca, the co-executors of Michael’s estate, also confirmed Joe’s death in a statement to Us Weekly: “We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family.  Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his own imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana to worldwide pop superstardom. Mr. Jackson’s contributions to the history of music are enormous.  They were acknowledged by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002  in a proclamation naming him as Best Entertainment Manager of All Time;   he was inducted into Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2014 and his son Michael acknowledged him with a Joe Jackson Day at Neverland. We had developed a warm relationship with Joe in recent years and will miss him tremendously.”

Radar Online reports that he died in his Los Angeles home. “He had home nursing care and things took a turn and they wanted to rush him to the hospital, but it was too late,” a source close to the Jackson family told the outlet.

Us Weekly confirmed on June 22 that Joe had been hospitalized in the final stages of terminal cancer.

“Everyone in the family, from Paris to Janet, is planning to see him,” a source told Us at the time. “He can still talk and communicate at this point. He’s very weak.”

News of Joe’s death comes two days after the ninth anniversary of Michael’s death.

Us previously reported in May 2016 that the father of 11, whose children also included the members of the Jackson 5, was hospitalized following a check-up at his doctor’s office.

“He wasn’t feeling well over the weekend and last week and he was very sick, so they made an appointment for him to see his doctor and the doctor admitted him to the hospital,” the source told Us at the time. “They couldn’t really pinpoint what was wrong with him. He had an extremely high fever.”

The former talent manager also suffered a stroke while celebrating his birthday in Sao Paulo in August 2015.

Joe, who married Katherine in 1949, had a brief music career before putting his sons, including Michael and Jermaine, together in a group called The Jackson 5. After they were signed to Motown in 1968, the family moved to California, where the patriarch supervised the group’s recording sessions and later opened his own record label, establishing the careers of his youngest son, Randy, and daughter Janet.

Katherine twice filed divorce papers over the years but later withdrew them and the couple remained married despite Joe fathering a child with another woman. He later moved to Las Vegas while his wife stayed at the family home in Encino, California.
