JoJo Fletcher Reacts to Being Dumped by Bachelor Ben Higgins: ‘My Heart Just Dropped’

“I think that day I had gone into the day getting ready and being really excited, and I had mentally prepared myself to get engaged to Ben and start my life with him,” Fletcher, 24, explained to host Chris Harrison.

Then she turned to address Higgins himself. “I felt in that moment that every conversation that you and I had led me to believe that that’s what was going to happen,” she said. “So on that last day — and you knew how nervous I was, just telling you how in love with you I was, how excited I was for our future — just to hear that word ‘but,’ I think my heart just dropped.”

Higgins, 26, chose Lauren Bushnell over Fletcher in the heart-wrenching finale. As Us Weekly previously reported, Higgins told both women he was in love with them before making his final decision and proposing to Bushnell, 25, in Jamaica.

While Fletcher had hoped Higgins would get down on one knee for her, the Dallas native is getting a second chance at finding Mr. Right. After she confronted Higgins during last night’s live taping of ATFR, Harrison, 44, announced that Fletcher would be the next Bachelorette.

Bachelor Nation shared their enthusiasm for Fletcher’s new gig on social media. Everyone from Andi Dorfman and Juan Pablo Galavis to Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici sent her well wishes.

Arie Luyendyk Jr., who competed for Emily Maynard’s heart on season 8 of The Bachelorette, wasn’t as thrilled. He tweeted that the last-minute decision to cast Fletcher “seems to be a trend.”

As Us Weekly previously reported, Higgins’ ex Caila Quinn was originally chosen for the role. Luyendyk Jr. went through a similar experience in 2014 when Chris Soules won the Bachelor title after Luyendyk had already filmed packages for the series.

However, Quinn, 24, isn’t bitter about the swap. After news broke that Fletcher would be ABC’s next leading lady, Quinn took to Twitter to express her excitement. “Sending love as the journey isn’t over, it’s only just beginning,” she wrote.
