Jon Gosselin — who is trying to halt production of his estranged wife Kate's TLC reality show — says he is to blame for his family's recent turn of events.
"Kate, I just want to apologize for my actions. I'm sorry," the father of eight, 32, tells Entertainment Tonight in an interview airing Friday. "You know that I was an avoider and I didn't communicate properly. And now I have to take initiative. Let's both go together, let's mediate this thing out."
Jon also said he's "apologized" to his eight children — 5-year-old sextuplets Hannah, Leah, Alexis, Joel, Aaden and Collin and 8-year-old twins, Cara and Mady — because he can't be "with them" all the time.
He added that they're aware of the media scrutiny, but he has yet to get into specific details about his life. He said he is "getting counseling … because I don't really know what to say to them that won't hurt them or harm them in any way."
On Thursday, Jon told Larry King that he wants to stall his divorce from Kate and "become friends. I want us to figure out our marriage and I don't want it to be filmed anymore."
But Kate's attorney Mark Momjian said that the divorce would not be delayed.
He slammed Jon on the Today show Friday, saying that Kate "really does want to engage Jon, it's just that he's not engaging her back. And that's really regrettable in any custody case."
He also said Jon would have no luck stopping her reality show, starring their eight kids.
"These parties entered into an agreement once the divorce action was filed that allowed each parent – who had physical custody of the children – to make the filming decisions when the children were with them," he said. "When the children are with Kate, Jon agreed that Kate would make the filming decisions involving the kids."
