Prior to announcing their decision to split on Thursday, Feb. 21, Josh Brolin couldn't help gushing about Diane Lane in a press interview for his film Gangster Squad.
"She's a very strong woman, extremely strong," the 45-year-old actor admitted when the Entertainment Tonight host referred to Lane, who will play Martha Kent in upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel, as a "Woman of Steel."
The Oscar-nominated actor also gave a hint as to how he and Lane, 48, managed to keep their marriage solid despite all the craziness of Hollywood.
"We're not really in the spotlight," he said. "I mean, we are in times like this [junket interview], but, you know, there's one light. We just do our own thing, and we always have."
"And we're not in L.A. all the time, we're up north a lot of the time where I grew up, so, you know, you just do what you do," he continued. "You don't play up into the hype so much."
On Thursday, the couple announced their decision to go their separate ways after eight years of marriage.
"Diane Lane and Josh Brolin have decided to end their marriage," reps for the couple told Us exclusively. The couple, who married in August 2004, parted ways a few months ago. They have no children together.
"It was a mutual decision. It is very amicable," a source tells Us. "It's not ugly, it's just over."
Both Brolin and Lane have previously been married — Lane was married to actor Christopher Lambert (with whom she has a daughter, Eleanor) from 1988 to 1994, and Brolin was married to actress Alice Adair (with whom he has two kids, Trevor, 24, and Eden, 18).
