The three best friends anyone could have!? Kaley Cuoco knows that she’s one of the lucky ones. The actress revealed during a pre-taped appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Sunday, Sept. 20, that her husband, Ryan Sweeting, and her ex-boyfriend Johnny Galecki are good pals.
“Well, we dated like five years ago, so I think we both moved on. Johnny is actually one of my best friends. It’s a situation that ended well,” Cuoco, 29, told host Andy Cohen. “I understand sometimes it doesn’t. It could have gone horrible.”
She continued: “He’s one of my dearest friends. Ryan loves him. Johnny loves him. It’s been a long time, so it’s great. I got lucky! That could have been horrible.”
Cuoco and Galecki, 40, first met on the set of their CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory and secretly dated from 2007 to 2010. The exes kept tight-lipped about their romance for years – that is, until Cuoco opened up about the relationship in 2010.
“It was such a huge part of my life and no one knew about it. This is the first time I’ve ever talked about it, ever. It was a wonderful relationship, but we never spoke a word about it and never went anywhere together,” she told CBS Watch! Magazine at the time.
“We couldn’t do anything. It wasn’t as fun as we wanted it to be. Everyone was always asking, and we deny-deny-denied. And I’m like, ‘Why am I denying this person that I love?'” she added. “We knew we weren’t destined to be together. We accepted it and said, ‘Look, if we ever break up, we will be professional.’ I’m so lucky it was a mutual ending and that we don’t hate each other. We’ve seen that happen on other shows.”
Galecki shared the same sentiment in November 2013. “We’re dear friends, still. Kaley’s not just an ex, she’s a part of my life,” he told CBS Watch! magazine. “I just don’t like to speak about it. And not because I’m trying to be enigmatic; I just worry that it will conflict with people’s acceptance of [our BBT characters] Leonard and Penny. I get the curiosity, but I don’t want to distract from the story.”
And what a story it is! After nine seasons, Leonard and Penny are finally set to tie the knot during the Monday, Sept. 21 episode. “We’re back baby!!! Don’t forget to tune into @bigbangtheory_cbs tonight,” Cuoco captioned a pic via Instagram of the characters on Monday. “I mean it when I say, I’ve waited for this moment since the pilot nine years in the making!!”
In real life, of course, Cuoco has been married to tennis pro Sweeting, 28, since December 2013.
