Not as it seems? Mexican actress Kate del Castillo has finally spoken out following the arrest of drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and her involvement in Sean Penn’s Rolling Stone interview with the wanted fugitive.
“Thank you for your support over the past days,” del Castillo, 43, tweeted on Wednesday, January 13. “Not surprisingly, many have chosen to make up items they think will make good stories and that aren’t truthful. I look forward to sharing my story with you. Kate del Castillo.”
According to Penn’s tell-all Rolling Stone article, del Castillo introduced El Chapo to the actor in October. Penn, 55, recently told the Associated Press that he’s “got nothin’ to hide.”
El Chapo was arrested on January 8, and Mexican federal law enforcement later told the AP that Penn’s interview was what led them to the wanted criminal.
Following the arrests, Milenio, a Mexican newspaper, released alleged texts shared between del Castillo and El Chapo in which he told her, “Your presence is going to be something beautiful … I really want to meet you and become very good friends with you. You're the best of this world.”
