History in the making. Kate Middleton and Prince William capped off their weeklong tour of India and Bhutan with a very special visit to the Taj Mahal — with a historic, bittersweet moment on the late Princess Diana’s bench — on Saturday, April 16.
The royal couple looked cool and collected in the hot Agra sun, with Middleton, 34, clad in a blue-and-white print Naeem Khan dress and nude pumps, and William, 33, in a blue blazer, white shirt, and chinos.
The pair posed for several photos in front of the stunning monument before taking their seats on the stone bench situated at the end of a long reflecting pool at the front of the Taj Mahal, affectionately known as Lady Di’s Chair, after William’s late mother.
There, the duke and duchess recreated the headline-making image of Princess Diana, taken 24 years ago, but this time, with smiles. (Diana’s famous forlorn 1992 photo was taken solo, just months before she and Prince Charles announced their decision to split.)
It has been an eventful week for the pair, who visited the Tiger’s Nest Monastery in the Himalayas just one day earlier, where Middleton told Us Weekly that they were excited to reunite with their little ones, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
“Massively, yes, of course [we miss them],” Duchess Kate told Us. “And we’re looking forward to seeing them. They’re in good hands.”
