Kelly Clarkson just wants to break away from her 2003 flop From Justin to Kelly. In fact, in her mind, it's already gone. Speaking with Time magazine a few days after she told Us Weekly she "cried for an hour" and "pleaded to be let out of her contract" for the film, the American Idol season one winner joked that she likes to pretend the movie never even happened.
Asked whether she'll ever show the film to her daughter, River Rose, the "Heartbeat Song" singer, 32, replied emphatically, "Never! We don't have to show her that!" Her interviewer, in turn, asked, "You're going to pretend it doesn't exist?"
"That's what I do. So why not?" she quipped. She balked at the suggestion that the Razzie-winning musical comedy — which costarred Idol runner-up Justin Guarini — might someday be a cult classic, saying, "Oh my God, I hope not. I just want it to go away. I want to own all of it. I just want it to not be here."
Clarkson has indeed come a long way since she and Guarini shared the screen more than 10 years ago. In the years since, she's released six studio albums — plus a Greatest Hits compilation. (Her seventh studio album, Piece By Piece, drops March 3.)
She's made strides in her personal life, too. After marrying Reba McEntire's stepson Brandon Blackstock in October 2013, she welcomed daughter River in June 2014.
Blackstock, she told CBS Sunday Morning's Tracy Smith in a separate interview, was the first man to whom she said "I love you" and meant it.
"Yeah, yeah, that's the first time that happened," she admitted. "That's horrible. But it's true."
In fact, Clarkson never imagined that she'd find the kind of relationship she has now. "I never thought, honestly, I would get married or fall in love, like they say in the movies," she told Smith in an interview airing March 1. "I never thought that would happen…because I didn't think it was true…I just didn't know if it was possible."
