The actress, who played instructor Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood opposite Tom Cruise in the 1986 hit, explained that the incident happened when she returned home around 9 p.m. last Friday and realized someone was in her Henderson County, North Carolina, house with her.

“I was trying to get rid of the stuff in my hand to better assess what was going on when a stranger, a woman, came barreling down the hallway and began yelling at me,” McGillis, 58, wrote. “I asked her who she is and why she was in my house and she said, ‘You know why. You’ve been stalking me on Twitter.’ Not true.”

The Blue star said that she ran outside and called 911, but the woman — who had a little girl with her — allegedly “began punching and scratching [her] trying to grab the phone out of [her] hand.” McGillis kept yelling and screaming as she ran to find help. According to the actress, a Good Samaritan eventually pulled over and called 911, and help came.

The woman, identified by police as Laurence Marie Dorn, was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor stalking, assault and battery, and interfering with emergency communication, according to local news outlet WLOS. The little girl is in the custody of the Department of Social Services.

“I’m alright,” McGillis continued in her post. “Scratched and bruised. I feel very thankful it turned out well. But who I feel heartache for is the little girl that was with her. Mental illness takes many hostages. I don’t know her name…but I would like to ask that you pray for her and her mother.”

The actress told WLOS that she is moving forward.

“I have a great faith that something good comes out of everything,” she said. “In this particular instance, maybe I was an instrument to get that child away from that mother. Maybe this is what had to happen so that child could be safe.”
