Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 2, after she was caught shoplifting from Target -- find out how her close pal and ex-husband Monty Brinson reacted.

She needs to sit down for some real talk. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 2, after she was caught shoplifting from a Target store in San Fernando Valley, Calif.

The Van Nuys Police Department confirms to Us Weekly that Richards, 50, was suspected of walking out of the store with close to $600 worth of items in her cart. She was apprehended at about 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon, and placed under citizen's arrest.

According to authorities, Richards spent the night in jail and was released on Monday, Aug. 3, on $5,000 bail.

Her ailing ex-husband, Monty Brinson, told Entertainment Tonight late Monday that he was surprised by the shoplifting claims. "I couldn't imagine Kim stealing or shoplifting anything. She is a giver," he told the site. "I am in complete shock. Guaranteed this must be some kind of mistake, and the facts will come out soon. She was arrested for shoplifting toys in a cart, but this was a clear misunderstanding. This was not alcohol or drug related."

This isn't Richards' first brush with the law. This past April, the former child actress was arrested on charges of public intoxication, battery, and resisting arrest, after causing a ruckus at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Richards subsequently checked into rehab in June, seeking treatment. Paris and Nicky Hilton's aunt told ET last month that she had completed her program, and had been sober for beyond 30 days at that point.

"I went in and I got to learn a whole lot about myself," Richards told ET of rehab. "I dug deep into my past, things that happened to me as a child, good and bad, teenage years, relationships with all my loved ones, where they need to be mended, where they're very powerful. I worked on me."

While it remains unknown whether she will return to the next season of RHOBH, Richards said she was getting back to a good place first. "Actually, my arrest was my 'Aha, I get to go away now and rest and take a break from all this,'" the Bravo star noted. "I don't want anybody to take this wrong, but I truly needed a break from hospitals, family, the pressure. I needed to go away."
