She didn’t believe it! Kris Jenner thought that Kim Kardashian’s 2014 Paper magazine cover, which shows her balancing a champagne glass on her bum while standing up, was actually altered. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians momager opened up about the crazy feature and more during a sit-down with Maria Shriver at the Architects of Change: The Conversation Series event in L.A. on Thursday, January 14.
Jenner, 60, brought up the racy spread, which also showed Kardashian, 35, fully nude, after revealing that she thinks her daughters pose for “cringeworthy” photo shoots at times.
“I don’t even know that they’re coming out [sometimes],” she told Shriver, 60, at the Skirball Cultural Center. “Like [Kim’s] martini glass on the booty. I obviously know for the little ones [Kendall Jenner, 20, and Kylie Jenner, 18] we have people on set if they’re underage.” (Kardashian actually posed with a champagne coupe glass.)
As previously reported, Kardashian didn’t tell her mom about the risqué snapshots ahead of time. Jenner only found out the day the pictures were released. (The photos quickly went viral with the hashtag #BreaktheInternet and inspired several hilarious memes.)
“With those three [Kim, Kourtney Kardashian, 36, and Khloé Kardashian, 31], because of their age, I am more a friend than a mom, because they’re telling me what to do,” she continued. “I don’t want to be that nasty mom that’s telling them what to do, because I want them to take care of me when I’m old.”
Jenner has taken on the role as momager since day 1. Caitlyn Jenner’s ex-wife also told Shriver that she has a “really great balance” when it comes to being a mom and a manager. She gave one example that showed her managing more, though.
“I had a conversation with Kendall this week, because she has a conflict with professional and personal and travel, and she’s very thoughtful and needs to make the right decision,” Jenner explained on Thursday. “She said, ‘I have to do this job, which is in Europe. And I have to be here for personal reasons.’ She doesn’t want to let anyone down. As her manager, she needs to do this job, and I give her all the reasons why, because it’s a huge responsibility, and she feels like she has to be home for someone who is having a celebration.”
She added, however: “Being a mom is always my first responsibility, to make sure she’s stable and responsible. That always comes first.”
