A shooting occurred at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday, Nov. 1. Police told CNN that a man "pulled an assault rifle out of a bag and began to open fire" in Terminal 3 before being taken into custody.
Mythbusters stars Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci were inside Terminal 3 at the time of the tragic shooting. The Science Channel and Discovery Channel issued a statement Friday announcing the two stars from the documentary science show are safe.
"Mythbusters' Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci were present in Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport at the time of today's shooting incident. Both were en route to Delaware for the filming of 'Punkin Chunkin.' Grant and Tory are safe and being rerouted," the statement reads. "Our thoughts are with all those affected by today's tragedy and our gratitude goes out to the members of the LAPD, Airport Police, TSA, and Virgin America staff for restoring safety to the scene."
Both Imahara, 43, and Belleci, 43, have been live-tweeting from inside LAX with updates from the scene. "Something crazy is going down at LAX," Belleci initially tweeted. "People running everywhere. We just got evacuated." Shortly after he wrote, "Shooters in #LAX That was f***ing terrifying!"
Belleci shared another update later, writing, "Almost 4 hrs since the shooting. Still here. 2000+ people. They're handing out waters & snacks. #LAXShooting." Imahara also tweeted, "Still inside the Intl Terminal. They're processing IDs. The main question is "Did you see anything?" Been asked by 6 different ppl."
Police told CNN that one person was killed and others were injured during the shooting. According to a CNN source, the fatality was a TSA agent. The gunman was reportedly shot in the chest multiple times before being taken into custody.
