Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda Applaud Bruce Jenner for Transition, Interview: “That Was Amazing”

Fonda him! Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda applauded Bruce Jenner for his brave announcement while speaking to Us Weekly and other reporters at the Grace and Frankie Netflix series premiere in L.A., on Wednesday, April 29.

Tomlin, 75, and Fonda, 77, who cradled her dog Tulia on the red carpet, discussed the former Olympian’s bold announcement during his Diane Sawyer interview, which aired last Friday, April 24.

“That was amazing,” gushed Tomlin, who is notably one of Hollywood’s many gay celebrities. “I mean, he’s so well-known, a part of such a prominent family.”

Fonda chimed in: “Plus, being an Olympic athlete. It’s important what he’s doing!”

“The world’s greatest athlete,” Tomlin confirmed. “And so, it’s kind of refreshing to see someone like that, it can be important.” (Tomlin wed the love of her life, longtime partner Jane Wagner, in December 2013 in a private ceremony.)

She and Fonda are amongst the many celebrities to speak out in support of Jenner following his two-hour 20/20 special. Stars like Maria Bello, Real Housewives of Atlanta standout NeNe Leakes, Laverne Cox, and members of both the Kardashian and Jenner families have publicly lauded the Olympic gold medalist for his announcement.

On Wednesday, Jenner’s ex-wife Linda Thompson posted a new photo with the reality star and his first wife Chrystie Crownover, alongside a link to her HuffPost piece about how he revealed his secret.

“If Bruce had told me about his gender issue when we first began getting romantically involved, I would not have married him. Pure and simple,” Thompson, the mother of Brandon and Brody Jenner, wrote. “But looking back, I’m so grateful to God, the universe, and Bruce that I didn’t know, and that Bruce played the role in my life that he did.”
