Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods are used to being in the spotlight, but the controversial couple didn't expect to be put under the microscope when they took their relationship public in March. The Vail, Colo.-based skier, 28, opened up about her golfer boyfriend, 37, when she attended the CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City on June 3.
"It's weird. I'm used to it in the ski world, but not in my personal life," Vonn told E! News of the attention their courtship has received. "So, it's been difficult and interesting."
The Olympian continued, "I mean, it's weird when people are taking pictures of you when you don't know it. It's a little bit -- a lot -- intrusive. But we're dealing with it and we're happy, and that's all that matters." Woods didn't make an appearance at Monday's star-studded event. Instead, Vonn attended as a guest of fashion designer Cynthia Rowley.
The couple's relationship has been moving at warp speed since they shared four engagement-style photos on the internet March 18. "Lindsey and I have been friends for some time," Woods explained on Facebook. "But over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating."
Shortly after making their red carpet debut at the Costume Institute Gala in early May (where Woods appeared drunk and bleary-eyed at an afterparty), the athletes spent Memorial Day weekend together in Jupiter, Fla. The golf pro's children with ex-wife Elin Nordegren -- Charlie, 4, and Sam, 5 -- were photographed jet skiing with Woods and Vonn.
Once-wed Vonn is currently training for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, after sustaining an injury earlier this year. Her forced break from skiing -- and her time with Woods -- has brought positive change to her life, a confidant said in Us Weekly's Apr. 8 issue.
"The year sucked in terms of physical things, but for the first time, she feels like she can do anything she wants," the Vonn pal said. "This is the first time she can be a woman."
