Malcolm-Jamal Warner Talks New Album, Cosby Show: “Its Legacy Can Never Be Tarnished”

Malcolm-Jamal Warner sheds new light on The Cosby Show and its now-complicated legacy in an interview with Us Weekly.

In this exclusive video, Warner, 45, who played son Theo Huxtable on the classic ‘80s family series from 1984 to 1992, maintained that the show would be able to rise above Bill Cosby’s far-reaching sexual assault scandal.

“I hope so,” the actor said. “The legacy of the show can never be tarnished, because all of the good that show has done. The generations of young people who went to college, who wanted to go to college, because of the show, that can’t be taken away. They were all influenced by that show.”

In a lighter moment, the Grammy winner, who recently released a new album entitled Selfless with his band Miles Long, admitted that he did regret some of the fashion choices on the smash NBC series.

Warner also spoke about Selfless, his third album, and how it’s his most personal one yet.

“I’m talking about where I am in regards to relationships and deciding to take a break from relationships, so I can be in a place where I can get my heart set,” he revealed. “I put myself out there, my insecurities, my swag, and it really resonates with people.”

The actor-turned-director recently reunited with his former Cosby Show costar Raven-Symone on the Friday, Oct. 16 episode of The View.

“That’s a show that we’re all very proud to have been on,” Warner told the audience. “The legacy cannot be taken away because all of the good that show has done cannot be taken away.”

In a previous interview, Warner told the Associated Press he felt the show had been “tarnished.”
