Lea Michele is stepping into the ruby slippers and morphing into Oz traveler Dorothy Gale in the new animated musical film Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return.
Although Dorothy was most famously portrayed by Judy Garland back in 1939, Michele’s costar and funny man Martin Short joked with the 27-year-old that she gave the legendary star a run for her money.
“You’re way better than that hack Judy Garland,” Short, 64, who plays new villain Jester, the Wicked Witch of the West’s younger brother, joked at the film’s premiere on Saturday, May 3 in Westwood, Calif.
Quipped Michele in response: “I’m pretty sure that a house is going to fall on you later for saying that.”
The film, which takes Dorothy back to Kansas where she finds her old friends the Scarecrow, the Lion, the Tin Man and Glinda in danger, hits theaters May 9.
