Melanie Griffith's "Antonio" Banderas heart tattoo was very visible on the red carpet one day before the couple announced their split on Thursday, June 5

Wearing her heart on her sleeve…literally. Melanie Griffith attended Jane Fonda's American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award dinner in L.A. on Thursday, June 5, just one day before announcing her split from husband Antonio Banderas. The actress seemed to be in a great mood that night, but there was something more visible than her smile—her famous "Antonio" heart tattoo.

The 56-year-old actress beamed on the red carpet in a sleeveless black dress and kept her blonde locks up. Despite getting dolled up to celebrate friend Fonda, however, it was hard not to notice the right arm ink that she's now had for over a decade. (The black tattoo is of Antonio's name written inside a heart.)

"She looked like she was in great spirits actually," an eyewitness told Us of Griffith. "She was talking to Sally Field and looked great, all smiles."

In documents obtained by TMZ, the Working Girl star filed for divorce from Banderas , citing irreconcilable differences. She's asking for spousal support and joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter Stella.

"There was no cheating on either side. They had fallen out of love awhile ago," a source added to Us. "Their daughter Stella is about to be 18 in September and they wanted to wait until [the] kids were grown and out of the house before they split up, but knew they would awhile ago. They stayed together for the sake of the kids."
