Celebrity fashion designer Michele Savoia, who outfitted Ricky Martin for his Broadway run in Evita, was found dead on Sunday, Feb. 16, in the Hudson River, police confirmed to multiple outlets. He was 55.
Savoia was last seen on Thursday, Feb. 13, as he left New York City hotspot Marquee at around 4 a.m., the New York Times reported. Police pulled his body from the river on Sunday afternoon near his house boat, which docks at Pier 59 on Manhattan's west side.
A friend, Kevin James Dalton, told the Times that it appeared as if Savoia had slipped on the ramp leading up to his boat and fallen into the water. Police told TMZ they don't suspect foul play.
Raised in Hoboken, N.J., Savoia was known for his vintage-style suits and stage costumes. (In addition to Evita, he created outfits for Lucky Guy, Swing, and Promises, Promises.) Among his celebrity clients were Robert DeNiro, Chris Noth, and Mickey Rourke.
