Gotta go with the flow! 19 Kids and Counting matriarch Michelle Duggar is a planner, but as she revealed in a recent blog post on her family's website, she's had to learn to give up some control over her schedule — especially when it comes to date nights with her husband, Jim Bob Duggar.
"Jim Bob is so much more spontaneous than I am," Michelle explained. "I like to plan ahead and think about it for days and always have my ducks in a row."
Her husband, on the other hand, is all for spur-of-the-moment lunch dates, which she has come to cherish over time. "I realized that [my need to prepare] was squelching Jim Bob's creativity and fun spirit — both things that I really love about him," she wrote. "I had to let go of that urge to plan everything. And when I did, it brought such a wonderful new dimension to our marriage."
The activities vary — sometimes they grab coffee or ice cream, other times they go for a quiet drive — but the important part is that they have time to "catch up with each other" without any interruptions. That's harder than it sounds, given the fact that they have 19 kids of their own, not to mention grandkids and kids-in-law. (Daughter Jill just announced her pregnancy, and daughter Jessa recently got engaged to Ben Seewald.)
"It's not uncommon for our dates to get bumped around because of our busy schedules," the TLC reality star blogged. "If we've got something happening on our regular date night, Jim Bob usually will just call me up on a weekday and ask me out on a date. It's really sweet."
