Michelle Obama on Dating: "Cute Only Lasts for So Long"

All the single ladies: Michelle Obama has some pointers for finding Mr. Right versus Mr. Right Now.
"Cute's good. But cute only lasts for so long," Obama tells fellow powerbroker Katie Couric in December's "Women of the Year" issue of Glamour magazine. "Then it's 'Who are you as a person?' Don't look at the bankbook or the title. Look at the heart. Look at the soul ... When you're dating a man, you should always feel good."

The cover girl, 45, also comments on the public's nonstop obsession with her clothes. "People have a right to their opinions, particularly when you're the First Lady; you're representing the nation," she reasons. "So I can't be surprised that people are interested. But I've tried to be at peace with the choices that I make first, and then be open to everyone else's reflection."

And how does the President's multitasking wife and mother to Sasha and Malia keep her sanity in check? "I have always tried to put my kids first, and then . . . put myself a really close second, as opposed to fifth or seventh. 55KRC, I understand that you get tired of the Obamas being on magazine covers and tv shows so much.. understood.. but when you say, "never before have a president and his wife been so visible in the media" or something of that nature...Only the Kennedys...other than that, NONE of the presidents or first ladies were interesting or attractive enough to be... they were all OLD and UGLY.. in MY opinion.
Why do people strongly dislike the obamas. what have did they did to u. i beleive race have alot to do with it. nobody own bush case for getting us in this war. everybody praised bush. obama vhavent did nothing that other presidents haven't done.

As far as her dating comments, well said. Cute is nice, but that doesn't keep you together. Compatibility is a long word, but even a deeper pool. I wish more women would wise up to that.

To KRC The Obamas spend so much time in the media to sell their policies not themselves. For example, Michelle is concerned with the quality of life for the military and their families. Citizens and people all over the world are intrigued by this couple. If answering a few silly seeming questions will bring attention to certain areas - why not?
To AMO, The First Lady has talked about other things, but remember this is US Weekly giving an excerpt of the Glamour magazine interview not Meet the Press. In addition, I want to know her secrets on finding "The One" that was meant to be for her. I like hearing love stories in general. I have had pleasant experiences, but I am still looking to figure out when someone will make an ideal husband, etc.
Two questions... Why is she commenting on dating? AND Why is she on the cover of Glamour??? Thanks for making me laugh today!

Patty Jones There have only been three first ladies in US history with higher degrees and Michelle has already proved that she is smart. If you cannot even graduate high school you are not qualified to talk to a double ivy JD about anything!
I am personally tired of the Obama's and their photospreads and prime time interviews. Very unpresidential and first ladylike in my opinion! Why don't they spend their time working on the problems of our country instead of selling themselves!! Never before has a president and first lady been so preoccupied with being so visible. And what has the first lady done except the hoola hoop and magazine covers? Answer: NOTHING!
She is so beautiful. I believe that she goes to charities and other functions which we the public do not even know about. She was interviewed in the last edition of Prevention magazine and they had a great picture of her and the President. I enjoyed the article very much.
I meant more along the lines of public service. I think Mrs. Obama is a great mother and wife but if I were a first lady, I would be out there in the heart of America speaking and encouraging Americans instead of having photo shoots but maybe thats just me. And as for the serving my country part, my husband does that thank you very much which is why I have not seen him in 3 months. God bless!
