Shade, shade, shade, shake it off! Miley Cyrus and Chelsea Handler reacted not-all-too-kindly to Taylor Swift‘s performance of “Shake It Off” at The Forum for the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards held Sunday, Aug. 24.
Cyrus, 21, was spotted watching Swift break it down onstage with a blank expression on her face. According to an observer, Cyrus was “not dancing AT ALL” during Swift’s routine. “She was throwing major shade,” the eyewitness noted to Us Weekly.
Another onlooker noted that the twerking sensation was significantly more animated when Nicki Minaj took to the stage. “Miley whipped her arm up around her head and threw a lasso dance move,” the onlooker told Us of Cyrus’ outgoing reaction to “Anaconda.”
Like Cyrus, comedian Handler also threw shade at Swift’s pop-y routine. “They asked me if I wanted to perform at the VMAs and I said there are going to be a lot of big fat asses at that awards show,” the late-night host said after “Shake It Off” ended. “So I will present, but you have to put me up after someone who’s white. So thank you, Taylor Swift, for being SO white!”
Swift, though, was unfazed by the “haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate” comments and reactions. During the show, the cameras panned over to the Grammy winner who was captured rocking out to numerous performances including Beyonce and Iggy Azalea.
Swift, seated next to Lorde, and in front of Demi Lovato, appeared as if she was having the best time when Azalea was onstage with Rita Ora for “Black Widow.” Swift flailed her arms and moved to the beat as the music blared in the background. Lovato, meanwhile, sat directly behind her scrolling through her phone as she spewed out a few lyrics.
