What a weekend! Miley Cyrus adopted a new dog on Saturday, July 2, and celebrated Independence Day by spending time with her on-again love, Liam Hemsworth.
The animal-loving pop star, 23, introduced her new pooch — an adorable beagle named Barbie — to the world via Instagram on Saturday. “Happy to introduce the newest member of my family Barbie,” Cyrus captioned a photo of herself and her canine companion. She also included the pointed hashtags, “#stopanimaltesting” and “#donttestonbeagles.” (The small canines are the most commonly used in pharmaceutical testing.)
Later, the former Hannah Montana actress shared more snapshots of herself and Barbie. In one photo, the pup is seen enjoying some playtime with Cyrus’ pitbull, Tani.
“Sisterzzzz!!!! Barbie ❤️s Tani!!!!” the “We Can’t Stop” songstress wrote alongside a pic of Barbie hanging out on a doggie bed with one of her new four-legged family members. “@beaglefreedom #stopbeagletesting#loveanimalsdontharmthem.”
Barbie, living up to her name in a stylish hot pink collar, also posed for a sweet caption-free selfie with her mom.
After Cyrus introduced Barbie to her 46 million followers on Saturday, she and Hemsworth, 26, enjoyed a romantic evening at Soho House in Malibu on Sunday, July 3. The Hunger Games hunk and Cyrus — who sported the engagement ring Hemsworth gave her in 2012 — arrived at the private beach club with smiles on their faces and left the venue together in the same car.
As previously reported, the couple met on the set of 2010’s The Last Song. After three years of dating, Hemsworth asked for Cyrus’ hand in marriage, but they ended their relationship in 2013. Despite their breakup, the duo remained friends and reunited in December 2015. The Disney Channel alum was spotted wearing her engagement ring again the next month.
Although Hemsworth told TV Week Australia in March that he wasn’t engaged, that hasn’t stopped Cyrus from getting started on wedding planning.
Back in May, a source told Us Weekly that the singer-actress would like to walk down the aisle in her husband-to-be’s native Australia. During a late-April trip to visit the Aussie star’s family in Byron Bay, “they were discussing potential venues and looking around,” the insider told Us.
“Miley’s mentioned she’s interested in having a bunch of bouncy houses,” a second source told Us of Cyrus’ nontraditional nuptials. “Like at a carnival!”
