She’s just bein’ Miley — and that’s officially okay!
On Wednesday, Sept. 23, the Advertising Standards Authority ruled that Miley Cyrus’s MAC Viva Glam ads that debuted earlier this month on Sept. 8 are just fine and didn’t break any rules. The ruling came after three people complained that the posters were “overtly sexual.”
“They were not overtly sexual and unlikely to cause serious or widespread offense,” the Authority ruled.
The posters show the controversial pop star, 22, lying on her back with her legs spread in the air. Cyrus wears a black-sequined ensemble, and while there was no nudity, a MAC spokesperson said that her crotch was visible in the reflections of mirrors where the posters hang.
MAC Cosmetics claimed the images were not “overtly sexual” because there was no nudity, and the spokesperson said instead that the singer showed “confidence and possibly defiance” in her posters.
The “Wrecking Ball” singer also stirred up controversy on Aug. 30 at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards as host, where she repeatedly referred to her marijuana use and wore a slew of what some felt were outrageous, barely there costumes.
