Elizabeth Smart has kept the details of her personal life behind closed doors -- until now!
In Hawaii on Sunday, the newlywed went for a stroll with her new husband, Matthew Gilmour, while showing off her engagement ring. The couple, who met while doing missionary work in Paris a year ago, tied the knot on Saturday.
It's been a whirlwind month of wedding planning for Smart, who made headlines when she spent a harrowing nine months as a kidnap victim in 2002 and 2003 at the age of 14.
After announcing her engagement in mid-January, the couple jetted to Hawaii for a private ceremony that took place on the North Shore in Oahu, Hawaii at the Mormon Temple in Laie.
Smart family spokesperson Chris Thomas explained in a statement that Feb. 18 was not the original wedding date, and that Smart, 24, decided to move the day up.
"She decided, about a week ago, the best way to avoid significant distraction was to change her wedding plans and to get married in an unscheduled ceremony outside of Utah," he said, adding that the couple will go on an extended honeymoon in an undisclosed location.
