Trying to get better. Nicholas Brendon has broken his silence just days after checking into rehab. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum gave Us Weekly an exclusive update on his condition on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
“Hi everyone. Depression is a real bitch. Monday night I left for 90 day in-treatment at a very good facility,” Brendon, 44, tells Us in a statement. “I want to thank all of you out there who’ve supported me during this very very VERY bad last year and a half. Lots of love to you guys.”
As previously reported, the star has been arrested on several occasions for intoxication over the past two years. (In August, Brendon also walked off set during a taping of Dr. Phil because he felt like the psychologist “went for the jugular.”) On Oct. 17, he announced via Facebook that he was going to seek help at a treatment center.
“For those of you who have shared your own struggles with depression and other issues with me, it helps me to know we’re not alone, especially when other people tell us to ‘snap out of it,” he adds in the statement. “If my struggles with depression and substance abuse have helped you deal with your own at all, that’s a silver lining on a pretty black cloud.”
Brendon has experienced other personal woes, too. This past February, he and his wife, Moonda Tee, split after nearly five months of marriage.
Despite his troubles, Brendon is staying positive. “I’m very hopeful that 2014-15 is the rock bottom of my life,” he tells Us, “and I’m looking forward to finding the man that my family, my friends, and my fans believe I can be. See you all in 2016.”
