Nick Carter has issued an apology on social media after being arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge earlier this month. The Backstreet Boys singer took to Twitter on Saturday, January 23, for the first time since his arrest to explain his actions.

“I am human and at times it can be a struggle to balance a healthy lifestyle,” Carter, 35, wrote. “I’m not perfect and for that I am sorry.”

The Dancing With the Stars alum was taken into custody on Wednesday, January 13, after a fight allegedly broke out at the Hog’s Breath Saloon in Key West, Florida.

“When we fall we have to get up and keep on walking,” Carter added. “I hope you stay by my side and continue to walk with me.”

Carter was arrested on one misdemeanor count of battery, touch or strike.

The singer, who is expecting his first child, a boy, with wife Lauren Kitt, has been open in the past about his battle with drug and alcohol abuse.
