Fact: Lionel Richie is a kind and generous man. His wife is a kind and generous woman. One of Mr. Richie's musicians, a young Mexican man, had a child with a non-black woman and found they could not care for her--Nicole. So Mr. Richie adopted her. Nicole Richie Madden is quoted as saying she has 2 fathers, but obviously feels closer to Mr. Richie than to her biological father because Mr. Richie and his wife are the ones who nurtured her and raised her from a very young age. Substance abuse and anorexia can and do happen in the best of families, with the best of upbringings. Lucky for Nicole, she turned her life around but has to still watch her weight because her tendency is to starve herself. She has also been reported as drinking and using drugs during her engagement to Joel Madden, and that is why he waited so long to marry her..until she layed off the drugs and booze, ate, and then gave birth to their first child. Good luck to her. Pneumonia can strike anyone at any age, and it is miserable. Speedy recovery to her.

As some one who is now 47, I had pneumonia at age 5, 13, 15 and severely at 42 and numerous milder times between then. My doctor said once you have it, you are more prone to get it again. Plus, all you jealous of thin people- it has nothing to do with your weight. For a VERY brief time she was underweight but that was years ago. She is tiny/ petite and perfect weight for her frame. And who cares what race she is- she is adorable. Anyone that saw the Larry King interview with she and her dad Lionel, know s she has grown into a beautiful intelligent and mature young lady. Get well soon.

Sorry, Manda B, Nicole Richie is bi-racial. Also, she's never acted like she was ashamed. All young ladies go through a phase in which they want to follow popular trends & look like their friends - hers was the "Paris Hilton Phase". A person can change up their look & still maintain their pride for their ethnicity.

Nicole Richie Hater needs to seek therapy. Nicole Richie is not black, she is of Hispanic heritage! Finally, PLENTY OF PEOPLE GET PNEUMONIA. It has nothing to do with her weight. Which btw, for her frame, is about where she should be. At one time, she was way to skinny, but she seems different now.

It can happen to anyone ...the germs are out there...most people recover rather quickly.

To Bi racial and proud, How exactly is she letting her ethnicity show? She looks the same to me. Just wondering what you see that I dont.

  • November 19, 2009 - 12:47am anonymous

well i am just happy that she is finally letting her ethnicity show...its about time she accepted her black heritage. Of all the life choices she made , denying her race was the thing that bothered me the most -----------NICOLE RICHIE ISN'T BLACK...SHE'S MEXICAN. SHE WAS ADOPTED BY LIONEL RICHIE AND HIS WIFE

That's what happens when you drink and drug for years and years and then refuse to grow up and eat like a normal adult. I don't care what people say about her "changing her life around". She's a complete mess and once and addict, always an addict.

My husband was diagnosed with H1N1 two weeks ago. For five days he was terribly ill, high fever, barely could get out of bed, etc. He seemed better one day and then within 14 hours he was diagnosed with full-blown pneumonia. He was coughing so badly and said it hurt his chest to breathe at all. He narrowly avoided the hospital. I agree with some of the other posters that this "flu" is brutal and it comes on so quickly. Please be aware. this is one case where you should believe the hype. get well Nicole.

I had pneumonia at 21 and she is not 20, it happens people get over it

  • November 18, 2009 - 10:15pm Ash

Hope she gets well soon but it is obvious by her weight that N.R. is not as healthy as she should be and getting something like that could be deadly if not treated quickly.

Linda is right, there's not a lot of 20-yr olds hospitalized with pneumonia. H1N1 is something totally different, but that's not what she has, according to this. She is at risk from being underweight, and puting such a strain on such a weak body with the two kids and all.
