Nearly a week after his sudden death at the age of 36, former fiancee Nicole Richie and other star pals attended the "open 12-step meeting" memorial of DJ AM (real name: Adam Goldstein) Thursday evening.
Look back on the life of DJ AM
Lindsay Lohan, fellow DJ Samantha Ronson, John Mayer and Robert Downey Jr., were among the celebrities who attended the service at the Hollywood Palladium. The late star's girlfriend Hayley Wood also attended.
Richie -- who dated the DJ for several years beginning in 2004 and is due to give birth to her second child with beau Joel Madden -- arrived to the memorial 15 minutes early. The star gave DJ AM's parents a hug before sitting down in the front row. Although she cried throughout the evening, the star, 27, kept her sunglasses on during the entire service, which began at 7:30 p.m. PST and lasted more than two hours, an eyewitness tells Usmagazine.com.

The memorial was attended by approximately 2,000 people. Several guests participated in the 12-step process, including Scott Caan, who wrote a rap to commemorate his friend and their time growing up together. Others who took the podium included club promoter Brent Bolthouse and Korn drummer Rob Patterson.
Wood also spoke about their relationship, which she said began as a friendship and evolved.
DJ AM was found dead last week in New York. Police officials say pills that appeared to be the powerful painkiller OxyContin were found in his stomach and throat.

Tell Us What You Think
22I'm sorry to the family for your loss... I really don't even know much about DJ AM; he went through a HELL of a plane crash where people died, and he survived. He seems to be a good dad? But all the money and all the fame does not help when you have the feeling that you would take your own life. I would never myself. But have lived through trying to help someone, I tried to help!!!(It's in the mindset) My sincere thoughts to the family Nicole and the kids!!!!! (Take care of the babies!!!)
dj am was the best dj in las vegas my thoughts go out to his loved ones and friends. rest in peace dj am.hope dj am's family is doing fine my thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones anf friends and family
COME ON PEOPLE I AGREE 100% WITH NO SYMPATHY INSTEAD OF DEALING WITH HIS PROBLEMS HE TOOK THE EASY WAY OUT !! ACCIDENTAL OVERDOSE, LIKE HELL IT WAS HE MEANT TO DU WHAT HE DID AND AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED ITS JUST ONE OTHER DRUGGIE OFF THE STREETS !!! MIND YOU TRAVIS BARKER WILL PROBABLY TURN OUT THE SAME WAY BLAMING IT ON THE CRASH TOO BY DRINKING HIMSELF TO DEATH !!!!!
what a douche bag lolololololololololol
Why are they still referring to that Hayley chick as his girlfriend? Didn't she break up with him, thereby leading him to tailspin into depression and suicide? Not blaming her, by any means, because he is responsible for his actions.
why was his fiancees crying during an NA meeting allowed to be leaked. this is a violation of the whole system of aa
He was a great guy and gave us amazing music. Some of his last work can be found on dubset.com. RIP.
Have some damn compassion NO SYMPATHY! Drugs are everywhere and people need help before something likes this happens. Hope you never have someone close to you go through it! Odds are high that you will....
Why are some people coming down hard on him because of his addictions? It is a mental illness/disorder. Trying to be logical about it ("he knew what he was doing" and "if he wanted help he would have gotten it") does not work well and does not fizz too often on someone who suffers from this. Adam suffered and deserves sympathy; not scorn. If he had died from another mental illness all of these insults to him would not be happening. I am a recovering addict, so I know what I'm talking about. It took me 3 trips to rehab before I got better. 3!!! It's a problem nobody wants or asks for. DO NOT JUDGE , unless you've personally been there.
*eyeroll*
4real...what exactly are YOU doing with YOUR life? I think he was doing a little bit more than you. He is a human being with feelings. No Sympathy - Sorry for your loss as well, but you can't honestly judge DJ AM for his drug problems, and depression. It's not something to play with. If you look on People.com one of the first articles will say "Did the plane crash lead to DJ AM's death?" if you read it, it will tell you how he was suffering Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder...he was feeling guilty for being 1 of 2 survivors, weird thing to say..but that's what he was feeling. Honestly, how would you feel if people were talking crap about your friend who suffered drug problems? Why don't people stop judging, and instead...help or talk to them. Even if they seem so selfish and push you out of the way...stay by their side. If possibly one day they wake up and want help, you will be the first one they come to..and they will tell you 'thank you' ..is that so hard?
ANONYMOUS 11.29 JUST BECUASE ADAM WAS FAMOUS DOENT MAKE HIM ANY DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER ADDICT OUT THERE, THE POINT IS HE KNEW FULL WELL WHAT HE WAS DOING AND HAD NO CONSIDERATION FOR THOSE LEFT BEHIND! AND AS FOR ANONYMOUS 11.31 AM AND CHI-TOWN CHICK YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BEG SOMEONE TO STOP AND SAVE THIER OWN LIVES SO U HAVE NO RIGHT TO CALL ME THE DUMBASS,ITS YOU THAT ARE DUMBASSES !!!!!
listen... 2 years down the line no one will know who this guy was...nothing is different nothing was special he didnt even do anything... do any of you have his records? books? magazine articles? riiight dude killed himself cuz of pressure due to drugs and depression.. if he wanted help he would have called but he didnt. The only person i feel bad for is his mother.
Well said Anonymous 11:29 a.m. RIP DJ AM.
no sympathy? aha you shouldve put no intelligence what so ever. dumbass.
No Sympathy: I am sorry for your loss. It has obvious caused you a lot of pain and you are still very angry about that person's choices. That said, the situation with DJ AM is different, if only because he is different from the person you lost. DJ AM had done drugs before and likely he didn't think this would ever happen. He had his own struggles after the plane crash. I can't imagine what it's like to be one of two survivors. Compassion goes along way in this world and while DJ AM made the choices he did and they led to his death, it is still sad. I hope you find peace and compassion for your own situation.
yes it was aby his own hand, but i have always felt so badly for those that feel that this is the only way out, the sadness and depression, the absolute feeling of nothingness.. my heart goes out to his family, to his friends and yes to him..i hope that where ever he is right now, he has found the peace that he was missing here on earth. And yes i believe it is heaven, i know the bible states he will not go to heaven for having taken his own life, but if those on death row feel that they now have god in their life and they have been forgiven for their rapes and murders and whatever else they have done, i believe our god is a forgiving god and has forgiven him for his moment of weakness.
IM NOT COLD AND UNFORGIVING I TRIED TO HELP SOME ONE CLOSE TO ME DIE EXACTLY THE SAME WAY HE DID BYSMOKING DRUGS AND POPPING PILLS AND HE WAS BEGGED TO GET HELP BUT HE WAS TOOSELFISH TO SEE THAT HE HAD A FAMILY THAT CARED SO MUCH AND WENT AHEAD AND DID IT ANYWAY !!!!
so sad :o(
You dumb ass-you have obviously never lost anyone before.Yes-he made poor choices-but that doesnt stop his family and friends love for him.
