Nina Dobrev and Michael Trevino filmed an emotional goodbye to their fans after recording their final scenes for the hit CW show The Vampire Diaries — with their voices high and squeaky after inhaling a load of helium!
Fans were devastated earlier this month when Dobrev announced that her character Elena Gilbert would be leaving the hugely popular show at the end of season 6. Trevino, who plays Tyler Lockwood, is also making an official departure from the show although executive producer Julie Plec explained his leaving is less final ("Even though he's also going to be out in the world exploring new opportunities, we look forward to finding creative ways to make sure he and his character Tyler Lockwood always remain a part of the show," she said via a statment to Us Weekly.)
It's not just fans who have been mourning the news. Costar Michael Malarkey, 31, who plays Enzo in the show, told Us recently that tears were shed during Dobrev's final table read.
"We kind of knew about it a while back," he said of his workmate’s departure news. "But especially at the table read through the last episode she definitely got choked up a couple of times. It was a real good community kind of moment at the table reading because everyone was there and there was a real buzz in the air."
Despite emotions running high on the Atlanta, Ga. set, Dobrev, 26, and Trevino, 30, wanted to say farewell to their loyal fan base without letting the mood get too serious.
And thanks to the helium, they certainly achieved that!
"That a series wrap for Elena & Tyler!!!," Trevino captioned the video which he shared via Instagram on Wednesday, April 16. "It's been an incredible 6 years you guys. Thanks for sticking with us. We love you all! #TVD"
