Ohio State University Suspect Possibly Linked to Facebook Rant

Officials are investigating a Facebook rant believed to be linked to Abdul Razak Ali Artan, the 18-year-old Somali refugee who attacked fellow students at Ohio State University on Monday, November 28.

The post appeared online three minutes before Artan drove a silver Honda Civic into a group of pedestrians on campus and cut some with a butcher knife, ABC News reports. The post, which was a photo of a computer screen that showed text, was shared on a page that is now disabled.

“I can’t take it anymore. America! Stop interfering with other countries, especially the Muslim Ummah. We are not weak. We are not weak, remember that,” the text allegedly read. “If you want us Muslims to stop carrying lone wolf attacks, then make peace. We will not let you sleep unless you give peace to the Muslims.”

Additionally, ABC reports that the post called al-Qaeda cleric Anwar Al-Awlaki, who died in 2011, a “hero.”

As previously reported, at least 11 were injured during the rampage on Monday. University police officer Alan Horujko, 28, shot and killed Artan at the scene.

The FBI is still investigating the incident and Artan’s personal Facebook page to determine if it was a terrorist attack. On Monday, however, Ohio State President Dr. Michael V. Drake said to not jump to any conclusions.

“We all know when things like this happen that there’s a tendency sometimes for people to put people together and create other kinds of theories. We don’t know anything that would link this to any community. We certainly don’t have any evidence that would say that’s the case,” he said during a press conference, via CNN. “What we want to do is really unify together and support each other; do our best to support those who were injured in their recovery, and then allow the investigation to take place.”

Per NBC News, Artan lived in Pakistan for some time and moved to the U.S. in 2014. He attended Columbus State Community College for two years and graduated cum laude with an associate’s degree before registering at Ohio State University.
