Simon Cowell isn't a dad yet, but he's already had plenty of experience mentoring kids and teens. Case in point? The guys of One Direction, whom Cowell, 53, guided to success on the seventh cycle of the U.K.'s X Factor. The group finished third in the competition, but they've become an international sensation in the time since, selling tens of millions of records and earning a loyal, at times rabid following.
The boy banders -- Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne -- spoke with Us Weekly recently in advance of the release of their movie, This Is Us (out Friday, Aug. 23). Among other things, they talked about their mentor's recent baby news. (As Us Weekly exclusively revealed in late July, the Brit is expecting a baby with New York City socialite Lauren Silverman, the ex-wife of his friend Andrew Silverman.)
Asked whether they think Cowell will be a good dad to his baby-to-be with Silverman, the teen idols didn't hesitate to say yes. "I do," Tomlinson, 21, told Us.
"He's going to be sick," Horan, 19, piped in. "He's a really nice, great guy." Added Styles, also 19: "He's going to be great."
Cowell, for his part, is eager to start the adventure of having a baby. At the London premiere of This Is Us on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Empire Leicester Square Cinema, the former American Idol judge told Us he was looking forward to fatherhood.
"I'm happy and excited," he said when asked about Silverman's pregnancy. "It's a great time in my life."
