Leonardo DiCaprio’s Big Win, Lady Gaga’s Moving Performance Top the Biggest Social Media Moments From the Oscars 2016

It’s all about the Oscars! The biggest night in Hollywood took over the internet on Sunday, February 28, as the Academy Awards dominated social media, creating some memorable moments.

Leonardo DiCaprio led the online conversation as his win for best actor became the most talked-about moment on Facebook and overtook Ellen DeGeneres’ record-breaking selfie as the most tweeted-about Academy Awards moment ever.

Chris Rock had a lot to celebrate, too. The host posted several behind-the-scenes shots from the awards show, including one with Stacey Dash. The actress’ onstage appearance at L.A.’s Dolby Theatre left the audience in silence as she said to the crowd, “I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy Black History Month!” The joke appeared to be referencing her recent comments about eliminating Black History Month and the BET Awards.

Another big social moment came from Lady Gaga, who delivered a powerful rendition of her Oscar-nominated song “Til It Happens to You” from the documentary film The Hunting Ground, about on-campus rape. Kesha applauded the singer on Instagram for “bringing attention to sexual assault.” Gaga has been an advocate for the “Tik Tok” singer, who is embattled in a legal fight with producer Dr. Luke, who she claims mentally and sexually abused her.
