After nabbing the Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture -- Musical or Comedy for his role in the flick, Barney's Version, Giamatti charged two people five dollars a piece to snap a pic with his statue during the CAA after party at West Hollywood's Sunset Tower.

"At first they thought he was joking," an onlooker tells UsMagazine.com. "Then he says he's serious, so the guy gives him a ten dollar bill and snaps the photos with his camera phone."

The actor was more humble when it came to discussing his victory (he also picked up a Globe in 2009).
"If it was me, I'd give it to [Johnny] Depp," he told Us backstage. "Great-looking guy!"

Tell Us What You Think
13Apparently, he's as ugly inside as he is outside!!! So tacky!!! And yes, I agree with Mr. Giamattti, Johnny Depp got robbed, he should've won for "Alice in Wonderland" instead of him!!! No one even heard or seen the movie he won for!!! Ugh!!
DICK!
@ Olivia. Thanks for the head's up in case I should ever run into him. I'd just take a pic & keep it moving.
I think it's his odd sense of humor. Think about it, does he really need the money? I like him for some unknown reason.
I bet Giamatti laughed his butt off when the people left. That's fricking hysterical!
I met him years ago in New York when he was doing a show with Kevin Spacey -- right after Spacey had won the Oscar for American Beauty. As some of the actors came out the stage door, they stopped and signed autographs; Kevin Spacey stopped and signed autographs, took pictures with fans, and chatted with each person waiting to see him -- class act all the way. At that time, Paul Giamatti was most famous for playing the role of Pig Vomit in the Howard Stern movie. His response when I asked him for an autograph? "Sorry sweetie, not my thing." Was a jerk then, and apparently hasn't gotten any better!
I think someone's just sore cuz Mark Wahlberg didn't win. awwwwww POO!!!! Stop being a poor sport.
That is hilarious!
I would have charged HIM for the honor of taking his photo..who is he again?
He was just playing around. It's who he is. If he actually needed the money he'd have charged much more. It's Hollywood, none of them are normal.
That was a completely tacky thing to do. I don't think there is anything humble or normal about charging people money for a picture.
What an absolute a$$hole. Hopefully NO ONE will ask this moron for a picture ever again.
Poor guy, I'm glad he won, there is something very Humble about this guy that makes him seem "normal"
