Paula Patton seems to be in good spirits following her split from husband Robin Thicke. The Runner actress opened up about ending her nine-year marriage to the R&B singer during Good Morning America on Friday, Mar. 6.
“I’m doing really well. I mean, the honest truth is it has been challenging, but it’s been a year of growth,” Patton, 39, told co-host Robin Roberts. “Lots of healing and learning about all new things.”
The high school sweethearts separated in February 2014, with Patton officially filing for divorce that October. The exes share son Julian, 4.
“I’ve come out of it stronger. My son’s happy and I’m very — I feel like everything happens for a reason. And then you have to move on and grow from there,” Patton, the new face of Ellen Tracy’s campaign, continued.
“The thing is you can’t wallow in sadness or stay in bed when you have a child. And they’re so full of life and wonder. And he brings me so much joy.”
Patton and the “Blurred Lines” singer, 37, have remained amicable since their breakup, but Thicke didn’t give up their marriage without a fight first. During their separation (and amid cheating rumors), he titled his seventh studio album Paula, and cried on stage at the BET Awards in June 2014 while dedicating a song to her.
