People’s Choice Awards: The 5 Most Awesome Moments

Britney Spears at the People's Choice Awards on January 8, 2014
Check out the best moments from the 2014 People's Choice Awards

The people may have spoken, but it was the stars who made the night shine at the 2014 People's Choice Awards on Wednesday night.

"2 Broke Girls" actresses Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs co-hosted the gig — and, we have to admit, they did a pretty nice job … especially Beth, who showed off some serious musical skills (more on that later).

There were some sweet moments (like Jennifer Hudson receiving the humanitarian award) and some funny moments (like "The Voice" coaches' confessional), but to keep it simple, we've rounded up what we believe to be the 5 best moments of the evening. You're welcome.

1. The Star-Studded Opening
OK, so it wasn't going to win any Oscars, but the opening video wasn't without charm. Kat and Beth looked like they were actually having a great time delivering the snappy one-liners they've become famous for to a bevy of nominees. They even worked in Ian Ziering (briefly) fending off a flying shark. (How did "Sharknado" elude the BAFTAs?)

Even better though was Christina Aguilera making a cameo as a waitress alongside them. True to form, "The Voice" judge's uniform was way sexier than the norm; it was "Aguilerafied," if you will. The thin-strapped dress, covered in gold and red sequins, was very low cut in the front. She also had on red stilettos. When Beth told Christina that they don't receive many tips as servers, Christina shot back, "That's OK — I got plenty of tips," as she motioned to her famous curves.

2. Beth Behrs Performing "Baby Got Back"
Just because she plays a prim and proper(ish) young woman on "2 Broke Girls" doesn't mean Beth can't get down with … Sir Mix-a-Lot. The 28-year-old thesp proved to herself — and the world — that she has some serious rapping chops. And while her dance moves might have had room for improvement (and we may or may not have gotten a flash of her knickers), her vocal timing was right on the money. "Bottom" line: Even though she shouldn't quit her day job just yet, she did provide us with one of the most memorable moments of the evening.

3. Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev's Acceptance Speech
It's no surprise that these two "Vampire Diaries" stars snapped up the award for Favorite On-Screen Chemistry, considering they've been romantically linked off-camera — but it was their speech that really blew us away. "We started dating on the show," Nina explained before Ian added, "And then we started dating in real life." "And then we broke up in real life," Nina sighed. "And our characters are still dating on the show," Ian quipped. "It's a good thing it's not awkward," Nina laughed. And while we're fairly certain they rehearsed this all in advance, it did reinforce that they are professionals and made us think … maybe it really isn't all that awkward? Then again, maybe it is. Either way, we loved this moment.

 4. Ellen DeGeneres Receiving Her 14th People's Choice Award
What can we say? The woman is a hero — a hero who forces every guest to dance onto her stage rather than walk; a hero who regularly creates games for audience members that involve giant blindfolds and ambiguous rules; a hero who has won a record-setting 14 People's Choice Awards. That's why one of our favorite moments of the show was this living comedic legend receiving her People's Choice Award for Favorite Daytime TV Host to add to her already giant collection. Bravo, Ellen. Bravo.

5. Britney Spears Receiving Her 1st People's Choice Award
We were happy when Britney's name was called for Favorite Pop Artist (unofficially for her hit,"Work Bitch"), but we were truly thrilled when the announcer said that this was her first People's Choice Award — because that blew our minds. How Brit Brit has never nabbed one of these Waterford statues before is a mystery to us, but it's obviously an honor long overdue. So even though we got a glimpse of her gum during her (sweet but unexciting) acceptance speech, we're not mad at her. We're just elated her hard work paid off.
