Pippa Middleton Lands Her Own Magazine Column

Pippa Middleton

Pippa Middleton is already known as a party girl.

Now, the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge will put her expertise to good use as she pens a monthly column for the magazine of the upscale British supermarket Waitrose, called Waitrose Kitchen. The magazine says the 29-year-old's column will feature "casual dining ideas and recipes," and will debut in its April issue.

"I'm delighted to be writing for Waitrose Kitchen, a magazine that's always been a source of inspiration to me, for its extensive spectrum of food and beautiful style," Pippa said in a press release announcing her new gig. "My column, 'Pippa's Friday Night Feasts' will be an exciting opportunity to share my own passion and enthusiasm for food and entertaining and I can't wait to get started."

Ms. Middleton knows a thing or two about soirees. Besides being known to have a good time herself, she and Kate's parents, Michael and Carole, run a party supply business called Party Pieces. Last fall, she wrote a book called Celebrate, filled with party-planning tips, which described her as the editor of Party Pieces' online magazine and someone who worked for a London event planner.

Celebrate was panned by some critics it was called "pointless" and nothing more than a "cultural tea bag for the American market" by Britain's The Telegraph newspaper but great content isn't nearly as important as the publicity generated when a celebrity by association like Middleton is hired.

Here in the United States, we've seen that happen many times.

Former first daughters Chelsea Clinton and Jenna Bush Hager have both worked for NBC News, with Clinton appearing on "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" and "Rock Center With Brian Williams" since 2011, and Hager as a correspondent on "Today" since 2009. Neither Clinton, who turns 33 on Wednesday, nor 31-year-old Hager has received glowing reviews. Despite that, native Texan Hager was hired for a second media gig in November when it was announced that she had joined Southern Living magazine as an editor-at-large.

Kardashian siblings Kendall and Kylie Jenner have been "writing" about fashion and beauty for Seventeen since April. The girls, who are 17 and 15, respectively, often mention the magazine on their social media accounts and their blog another perk to hiring someone from a high-profile family.

David Burtka, longtime partner and fiancé of Neil Patrick Harris, became an E! correspondent in December 2011. While he's worked the red carpet with colleagues, he's also often found himself on the red carpet as NPH's date.

Michael Jackson's son Prince, who just turned 16, made a much-hyped debut as a correspondent on "Entertainment Tonight" last week, sitting down to chat with the guys from "Oz the Great and Powerful." It didn't matter that Jackson was so green that he needed a tutorial for conducting an interview with one of the "ET" hosts before the big event, which of course the show caught on camera and turned into a mini-interview about the late King of Pop.

So if you're looking to land a job as a correspondent, just say on your resume that you're related to a celebrity, and you'll have no trouble at all!
