Portia de Rossi is getting personal. The 40-year-old actress joined the cast of Arrested Development for a Thursday, Nov. 7 appearance on Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio. Host James Lipton asked de Rossi to share the story of the first time she came out as a lesbian with now-wife Ellen DeGeneres.
“I think when I really, truly came out was the Golden Globes when Arrested Development was nominated,” de Rossi recalled of attending the award show in 2005. “Ellen and I had been together for a month and I was very, very nervous going to that because I knew that I was going to meet up with her after the show . . . “
“And that there would be press,” costar Jason Bateman noted.
“And that there was press,” de Rossi agreed. “And that was the first time we stepped out together as a couple, but for me, it was the first time I stepped out as a gay woman, really.”
“Yay,” Bateman, 44, cheered and began a round of applause with the whole Arrested Development cast joining in. De Rossi and DeGeneres have now been married for five years.
