All the feels! Overnight multimillionaires John and Lisa Robinson, who nabbed one of the three winning $1.6 billion Powerball tickets, appeared on the Today show on Tuesday, January 19, where they discussed their transition into wealth.
The Mumford, Tennessee, residents are the recipients of $528.8 million from the record-setting jackpot that took the nation by storm in the first weeks of 2016. Four days after holding up their winning ticket on the Today show, the couple discussed what it was like to see their bank account — and how their lives have changed dramatically over one weekend.
“It’s been an overwhelming experience, and I think my husband and I finally realized the impact,” Lisa said. The couple, who reside in a quiet town that has a population of about 6,000, aren’t letting the nine figures blow up their (as Beyoncé would say) egos.
“I love my Hondas,” Lisa added. “And I can’t even drive my own cars right now. … My friends, they want to come see me, and they can’t come see me right now. I want to go visit some of my friends and just relax.”
“We’re getting the special treatment,” her husband said. “Just because, I won the lottery.”
Lisa returned to work on Monday, while her husband returned on Tuesday. “Got my wife on my arm, what more could I ask for?” he said.
The winners of the other two tickets, which were sold in Melbourne Beach, Florida, and Chino Hills, California, have yet to come forward. However, it’s not rare for winners of big jackpots to take their time to cash in. They may be biding their time and working with financial advisers before their lives could dramatically change, too.
