An American girlfriend! Prince Harry is dating Meghan Markle, the Sunday Express and Daily Star reported on Sunday, October 30.
Harry, 32, and the Suits actress, 35, reportedly met while he was in Toronto at the beginning of May to launch the 2017 Invictus Games, and she began following his private social media account at the end of June.
The Los Angeles native also shared several pics on Instagram from her trips to London and Europe over the summer, including a photo outside Buckingham Palace.
The papers report that the prince is “besotted” with the brunette beauty. “He’s happier than he’s been for many years,” a source told the Sunday Express and Daily Star. “They are taking each week as it comes and just enjoying each other’s company, but it’s fair to say that they love seeing each other and there’s a definite chemistry between them.”
While the couple appear to be worlds (or continents) apart, they share many common interests and are both known for their humanitarian work.
Earlier this summer, the prince spent nearly three weeks in Malawi, Africa, where he worked on the 500 Elephants initiative, which successfully moved 261 elephants from the Liwonde and Majete to the new Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. The remaining 239 elephants are expected to be moved in the summer of 2017.
Last year, Markle also visited Africa, where she worked as an advocate for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (also known as UN Women). During her stay, the activist met with female parliamentarians and visited the Gihembe refugee camp in Rwanda. She recently documented the trip on her blog, The TIG, where she noted that she often struggles with being both a successful actress and a humanitarian.
“I’m consistently asked how I keep a foot in two contrasting worlds — one in the entertainment industry, predicated on wealth and indulgence, and the other in humanitarian work,” Markle (who is also involved in the HeForShe gender equality campaign) wrote Monday, October 24. “To me, it’s less of a question of how can you do this and more a question of how can you not?”
Prince Harry also recently opened up about being in the public eye. While chatting about his romantic life with the Sunday Times in May, the royal explained, “If or when I do find a girlfriend, I will do my utmost … to ensure that me and her can get to the point where we’re actually comfortable with each other before the massive invasion that is inevitably going to happen into her privacy.”
Markle joins an exclusive list of beautiful women who the British royal has dated over the years, including Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas. Markle was previously married to Trevor Engelson before they quietly separated in August 2013 after nearly two years of marriage, as Us Weekly exclusively reported at the time.
When reached for comment, Kensington Palace told Us Weekly, “We don’t comment on stories related to private matters.”
