Your day just got a whole lot better. A throwback photo of Prince during his high school basketball days resurfaced online on Wednesday, Mar. 4 — and a man named Libor Jany is to thank. The editor from Minneapolis' Star Tribune newspaper posted the old pic via Twitter, which quickly went viral.

"Another Prince-related clip from the Strib archives, looking back at his hooping days at Bryant Junior High," Jany wrote.

The "Purple Rain" rocker, now 56, takes a knee for the pic as he rocks an afro and short shorts. He looks sharp in his No. 3 jersey and also wears what appears to be a long necklace or whistle.

Jany also posted a second newspaper clip, describing the R&B singer. "Though music was his calling, Prince mostly hung around with the jocks," it read. The Minnesota native also coached a grade school basketball team at church.

"Prince was an excellent player; he was like the sixth or seventh man. He was an excellent ball handler, a good shooter and very short 5 foot 2," Richard Robinson, his former basketball coach, said in the article.

"Probably with a different group of people he would have been a starter," Robinson added. "But, as they turned out, they were probably the best ball team that ever came along at Central [High School]. I knew he wanted to be starting and felt he should be starting. He was unhappy and he expressed that many, many times."

Prince left his basketball days behind before becoming a household name in the late '70s and early '80s.
