How cheeky! Princess Diana may have pulled off some sweet dance moves with John Travolta in her day, but the late royal also had some fun pranking another star at the dinner table. Princess Diana's personal chef, Darren McGrady, tells The Huffington Post that the late, beloved royal once fooled fellow dieter Oprah Winfrey into eating a fatty dish while she ate a healthier version.
"Diana, how do you stay so slim eating rich food like this?" McGrady recalled Winfrey, 60, asking Diana after having some spoonfuls of tomato mousse. "I just eat small portions and work out," Diana replied. McGrady quipped: "Diana never did tell her the truth."
McGrady worked for Diana for four years at Kensington Palace, and also revealed that Prince William and Harry's mom wasn't much of a cook herself. "She was just the worst, a terrible person in the kitchen," he joked.
She also didn't play by the Palace rules of propriety. "If she was on her own for lunch, she'd actually come and eat in the kitchen on the countertop," McGrady told HuffPo. "I'd make a tray for her and I'd just be tidying up the kitchen and things as we were chatting." He also recalled Diana often bursting into the kitchen and offering to make everyone coffee.
According to McGrady, that kind of behavior was "unheard of" at the Palace. He added: "The rest of the royals would never do that."
