Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna had much to discuss in the early days of their romance. A source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly that after the Arthur George sock designer, 28, reached out to the model, 27, in mid-January, they “bonded over their pain.” Continues the Rob friend: “Both of them felt f–ked over by the family.”
They held grudges for different reasons. Diagnosed with diabetes in December, Rob, who has gained 100 pounds in two years, was “seething” when he learned his family was staging a health intervention in January, says the friend. Then Kim mocked him on E!’s Keeping Up With the Kardashians January 3, joking that his expanded girth has turned a tattoo of his ex Rita Ora “into a Cabbage Patch doll.”
For her part, Chyna, once a close friend of Kim, was dumped by Tyga, who left her for another of Rob’s sisters, Kylie Jenner, 18, in 2014. After that, the ex-stripper’s friendship with Kim dissolved. Chyna, says the Rob pal, “intended to get back at the Kardashians.”
An opportunity presented itself when Rob reached out in the new year after scrolling through her social media posts. “Rob texted Chyna, ‘Hey, how are you?’ He was always friendly with her, so he had her number. And she’s Rob’s type,” says the friend. (A friend of the Lashed salon owner insists that “sweet” Chyna is motivated by “publicity, not revenge.”)
When the pair began hanging out shortly thereafter, they realized they had much more in common than a beef with Rob’s family. Hip-hop lovers, they “found out they like the same music and doing the same things.” A mutually beneficial relationship, says the source, “blossomed into a love thing quickly.” Indeed, the friend confirms an “obsessed” Rob drove from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas, to pick up Chyna from jail after she was arrested at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport January 29.
Now the Kardashians and Jenners are struggling to understand the new relationship. “They are shocked, confused and in disbelief,” explains a family source. Especially Rob’s youngest sister. “Kylie says Rob has stabbed her in the back,” recounts the friend. Even Rob’s closest ally, Khloé, 31, who he lives with, is “super annoyed,” says a Khloé pal. “She knows he’s doing this with a purpose. She feels this is a jab at the family.”
